DIY / EXTREMELY FRAYED DENIM

This season when it comes to denim the more distressed, worn, and frayed, the better. So when I spotted a pair of denim jeans with an extremely frayed hem on Harper & Harley, I was instantly inspired to summon my inner Project Runway contestant and re-create them. Unfortunately, I made the rookie mistake of grabbing stretch denim, which led to the spiral frays shown above, but I'm still extremely happy with the outcome. I definitely want to make a few more pairs in varying shades, and why wouldn't I, when they're this easy to create....

HOW-TO

Step 1: Grab an old pair of denim from your closet/head to your local Value Village. Reminder: If you wan't the same effect as above ensure there is a stretch to the fabric.
Step 2: Determine where you want to fray to begin and mark with a pin. This is the point where you'll need to sew twice around the circumference of the leg with matching thread to ensure the denim will not fray beyond this point.
Step 3: Cut the existing hem of the jeans off.
Step 4: Cut 1/4 inch sections running perpendicular to the hem all the way around each leg to create a fray-like effect.
Step 5: Throw them in the wash and watch the frays form.
