THOTTY SPICE

Photography by JupiterSpin

As a beauty addict, one of my favourite past times is playing around with the makeup I've amassed over the past few years. At one time that meant re-creating makeup tutorials I'd found online, however more recently it's meant combining lipsticks to create custom shades inspired by a lipstick or look that's caught my eye that week. The inspiration for this custom lip hails all the way from the Grammy's Red Carpet back in 2015, in which Zendaya stole the show with a beautiful vampy brown lip – seen here. I had attempted to re-create this look in the past, on The Pretty Vain, however the result wasn't as exact as I would have liked it. Therefore, I've spent the past year hoping to stumble upon the right products that could perfectly replicate the look in a colour appropriate for my skin-tone. And finally, I feel I've nailed it with a shade I've dubbed Thotty Spice.

To create this custom lip shade I applied the Too Faced Melted Chocolate in Chocolate Honey ($21) all over the lips, followed by a thin layer of MAC Lipstick in Stone ($21) to add a cool tone to the look. I then simply dabbed some of the Buxom Full-On Lip Polish in Amy ($20) on my lips, focusing on the center, with my finger to add a stunning shine. This is one of my favourite lip glosses for subtly transforming a lipstick as it imparts a beautiful sheen without affecting the colour – and the name is okay too, I guess.
