THE 90's LIP . TWO WAYS

Whether you're 'bout it or not, the revival of the 90's lip is evidently here to stay. And while your first instinct might be to search out the now, thanks to Kylie Jenner, illusive MAC Lipstick in Stone, or turn to your favourite progressive cosmetics brand to find the perfect muted brown, you'll likely leave empty handed as the rest of the world is on the same tip. My suggestion? Create your own unique 90's lip shade with a lip liner perfectly paired with a co-ordinating lipstick from an unlikely brand, such as Arbonne.

I was first turned onto Arbonne lip products after I had the opportunity to test out the brand's Intelligence Lip Treatment ($38), an intensive treatment that restores and regenerates the appearance and feel of lips. The thick formula is unbelievably soothing and dramatically improves lip moisture, volume, and firmness within a few short days. This also allows the Intelligence Lip Treatment to act, in part, as a lip primer, smoothing away any rough bits of skin, and increasing firmness to create a beautiful base for whichever lipstick you choose.

Here, I've chosen to present the 90s lip in two distinctly different styles; the first being the classic berry lip we've all become familiar with, and the second, a much more literal take on the trend featuring a muted brown combination that, dare I say, rivals Victoria Beckham's signature lip circa Spice Girls. Re-creating these looks at home is so easy to do with Arbonne! Simply begin by tracing the outline of the lips with the Arbonne Lip Liner ($24) of your choice, filling in the center once the outline is complete. Then merely layer on a co-ordinating lipstick shade from the Smoothed Over Lipstick Collection ($28) to amplify the colour and impart a beautiful shine. These lipsticks are ultra creamy thanks to the inclusion of fruit extracts and oils, so much so that I already broke off one of the bullets! Word to the wise: do not use excessive force when applying. For the berry look I've used the Arbonne Lip Liner in Berry paired with the Smoothed Over Lipstick in Iris. This combination is ideal for fall/winter and features warm undertones, making it totally wearable for work or play. For my version of the 'ultimate 90s lip' I've paired the Arbonne Lip Liner in Peach with my personal favourite shade from the Smoothed Over Lipstick CollectionTerra. I've yet to find a combination that more perfectly captures the glistening muted-brown lips seen in the 90s, and highly recommend checking out the Smoothed Over Lipstick in Terra if you don't already own MAC's Stone. These 90's-inspired shades will surely be on heavy rotation this month, along with some of my favourite 90's rap – stay up to date on what's pumping through my headphones this month by periodically checking the Music section.
