HIGH VIOLET
Gone are the days where donning a red or orange lip colour was considered daring or bold. Nowadays it's all about atypical colours, alternative finishes, and near-fluorescent shades. But for those of us who aren't ready to try a jade, or bright blue lipstick there is one shade that remains universally flattering while making an impact. Whether it be lilac, violet, or eggplant, it's clear that purple is the statement colour of the summer – a trend somewhat initiated by Rihanna, who sold out the Free Spirits Lipstick in Purple Haze after she shared an Instagram of her wearing the shade at Coachella this past April. Since said post I've made it my unofficial goal to find a lipstick equally as captivating and bold as Purple Haze.
In my search I've come across two liquid lipsticks that deliver intensely pigmented violet swatches –similar to that of Purple Haze–, make a bold statement, and feature a comfortable, non-drying texture. The Make Up For Ever Artist Plexi-Gloss in 500 Lilac ($19) is a brand new triple-impact lip gloss that features an unparalleled shine thanks to the inclusion of reflective shine beads, while the Stila Stay All Day Liqud Lipstick in Como ($29) offers a matte finish. As a beauty junkie it seems imperative to own both, but for those of you practice self-control, or are simply looking to purchase one violet lipstick, I would have to suggest the Stila Stay All Day Liqud Lipstick in Como given it's incredible wear-time.
